What's new in social from the past week

Instagram will now allow you to share post comments to Stories

The Instagram Creators account posted this week that you can now share post comments to Stories on Instagram.

This new feature is very beneficial to Social Media Managers and here's why:

➡️ You can now highlight the members of your community who are always hyping up your brand in the comments.

➡️ If you're constantly being asked the same questions in your comments, you can show your answer in a place everyone can see.

➡️ This update provides another piece of content you can easily share on Stories without having to create new graphics.

➡️ Community building has been huge in 2023 and will keep being a big topic of conversation in 2024. This feature provides another way you can tap into it!

Instagram's newest feature where you can share comments from your post to your Stories.

Instagram:

New read receipt options coming to Instagram

Adam Mosseri announced that the app is testing out the option to turn off your read receipts for DMs. Now you don't have to worry about leaving someone on read. 😉

Instagram adds song lyric display within Reels

You will now be able to add song lyrics to your Reels just like you would within Stories.

Threads:

Threads may be launching in the EU

App researcher, Alessandro Paluzzi, posted a screenshot they came across that states, "Threads EU launch." We don't know any other information, but if you're based in the EU, keep an eye out! 👀

X:

X looks to charge up to $50,000 for users to buy dormant handles

X has started to work on a handle marketplace where people can purchase account names that have been unused by the users who first created them. X has started to email potential buyers requesting a flat fee of $50,000 to purchase.

Meta:

Meta releases Reels A/B testing

Meta announced that it is rolling out A/B testing for Reels so that creators can test what thumbnails and captions perform best for their content.

YouTube:

YouTube is testing a chatbot

YouTube is currently testing a chatbot that will appear under the video you're watching. This chatbot can answer questions you have about the video and can summarize the content.

YouTube tests new Shorts discovery option

YouTube is testing a way to get users to watch more Shorts. This feature is a banner on the homepage that says, "Can't Decide What to Watch?" Once you click it, you'll be taken to a Shorts feed.

Google releases its Holiday 100 Gift Guide

For anyone who isn't sure what to get someone this holiday season, Google has released its list of the top 100 trending gifts to lend you a helping hand.
