What's new in social from the past week

Instagram is retiring Guides

Starting December 15, your Instagram Guides will be ✨ gone ✨.

‍

Here's what you need to know:

➡️ On December 15, your Guides will be converted into Collections that only you can view.
➡️ You can find Collections in the Saved section. (Tap the 3 lines in the top right of your Instagram profile.)
➡️ You'll have until March 14 to download your Guides from the Accounts Center.

New Instagram "Close Friends" update

Back in September, Instagram was testing the ability to post Reels and feed posts to Close Friends. The test is officially done and all users now have access to this feature. Is it just me or are there any other Canadians who don't have access to this yet?

Instagram releases new Reels editing features

The new editing features let you scale, crop, and rotate individual clips. And there's an undo and redo option.

Threads:

Threads test topic tags

Mark Zuckerberg posted this week that Threads is currently testing a feature that will allow you to add a topic tag to your post. This will help categorize your posts.

Threads releases an easier way to delete your account

After receiving a lot of feedback from the Threads community, Adam Mosseri announced that you can now delete your Threads account without it impacting your Instagram account.

LinkedIn:

LinkedIn is removing all carousels and profile videos

As of December 14, LinkedIn will be removing carousels, profile videos, and links within images and videos. This will not affect carousels that are in a PDF format.

TikTok:

TikTok announced a new feature called Add to Music App

The Add to Music App feature allows you to save songs you discover on TikTok on Amazon Music or Spotify. This feature is currently only available to users in the US and UK.

YouTube:

New YouTube tagging options for AI-generated content

YouTube creators who upload AI-generated content will now have to disclose in their video settings that they have altered their content.

X:

X adds video timestamps

When you upload a video to X, you can now add timestamps so that users can easily skip to different parts of the video.
