Snapchat 2.0 has arrived!

The days of a simple 10 second, self-destructing picture are over. On March 29th, Snapchat introduced what they call Snapchat 2.0. The update is an impressive overhaul to the app – especially when it comes to messaging your Friends. New features allow you to message others through different mediums like video for example, all depending on if the user wants to be silent or not. Snapchat prides itself on being the best alternative to physical face-to-face interaction, and the new 2.0 version gives users the immersive and in-depth experience they crave, making it a key component of many brands’ marketing strategies.

What we love most about the new Chat is how easily you can transition between all these ways of communicating just like you do in person. When thats possible, you aren’t texting, calling, or video chatting you’re just talking

What You Need to Know About Snapchat 2.0

The New Features Breakdown

Auto-Advance Stories:

Once you finish a Friend’s story, the next story on your list will start playing automatically! Swipe to skip ahead, or scroll down to exit. Easy watching, boosts views, and encourages posting.

Video-Notes:

When chatting, you can send 10-second videos which play like a GIF-esque loop. You could record a reaction to someone’s Snap, and if they tap they can hear any audio.

Voice-Notes:

Same idea as video notes, but only audio – when you’re not able to type.

Stickers:

Over 200 stickers have been added to help express how you feel through text, video and audio messages. This addition now explains why Snapchat buying Blitstrips makes sense – for a cool $100 million.

Multiple Photos:

While messaging a Friend you can tap on the picture icon and send as many photos as you like, at the same time. You can also send them during video calls – they’ll appear translucently on the screen.

You’ll be able to switch between audio and video notes, texting, audio and video messages and stickers while chatting with Friends. This is great if someone becomes unavailable, or the conversation changes.

Why Snapchat is not just a Fad

Snapchat has updated their Privacy center in accordance with the update. Snaps submitted for live stories with be saved temporarily, and everything else will be deleted – besides that, everything else remains the same. It will be exciting to see how marketers will utilize these new Snapchat features in future social media strategies. My guess is that they could use them during Live Snap Stories – which is probably just the beginning. Any ideas?
